Bodegas Trenza is a unique story of collaboration between brothers David and Jonas Tofterup (MW). Both brothers have combined together after somewhat different wine journeys, with the creative influence of Jennifer Powell, to deliver a unique story of family, friendship and teamwork, as well as outstanding internationally recognised wines.
Trenza in Spanish means to braid together, and the Bodega elegantly braids together their life experiences, their respect for the vines and their shared passion for wine, to produce delightfully unique and complex bottlings that add beautifully textured and nuanced colours, flavours and aromas out of each bottle.
The Bodegas Trenza collection of wines have been hand crafted and braid together the different grape varieties from throughout Spain. The result is the production of singularly focused varietals and elegant blends that showcase the uniqueness of Spanish terroir that deliver their optimal character.
Undoubtedly, Monastrell from the D.O. of Yecla delivers the most haunting and delicious creations from Trenza. In particular, Rizado Old Vines Monastrell 2020 varietal and the wonderful Trenza Family Collection 2020 Monstrell blend are both truly outstanding.
Bodega Trenza produce wonderful old vine Tempranillo from DO Ribera del Duero, and Garnacha Tintorerra (Alicante Bouchet) varietals and also blend smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Garnacha with their signature Monastrell.
On the white side of production, Trenza produce varietal Albariño, Chardonnay, and Abillo Mayor, as well as blends featuring Viura, Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Moscatel. Additionally, they produce a lovely Rosado from Garnacha and Bobal.
Sustainability is key to Bodegas Trenza, with all grapes sourced from dry farmed vineyards and more than 90% grown organically.
Through the braiding together of grape varieties, regions, terroir and fruit, the crafted Trenza wines offer everything from deep purple, red or ruby colours, fruity characteristics, savoury touches, refreshing acidity and an amazing ability to age.
