Garnacha Tinta

Garnacha Tinta

Pronunciation: Gahr-nah-chah Teen-tah.

Many of us have come to adopt the French name, Grenache, for Garnacha even though the grape originates from Spain. Granacha occupies pride of place in Catalunya, Navarra and Aragon.

Garnacha Tinta is known for producing wines with a medium to full body, high alcohol content, and a soft tannin structure. The more approachable wines tend to play in the ripe red-fruit world (strawberry, red cherries, raspberries and red apple) and have more delicate hints of spice, floral (rose), and herbal notes. Depending on your preferences, both styles can be great.

The serious, riper Garnacha wines deliver deeper aromas of jammy black fruits (blackberry, boysenberry, black cherries) as well as oak-derivative aromas (smoke and chocolate) as well as cracked black pepper aromas. They tend to be more on the full-bodied side, with softer tannins.

Perfect Pairing: Garnacha Tinta is a versatile grape that pairs well with a variety of foods, particularly grilled meats, stews, and pasta dishes with hearty sauces. Its high alcohol content and soft tannins make it a good match for flavourful dishes and rich cheeses. It is also a popular choice for sipping on its own, due to its juicy and fruit-forward flavour profile.

Jamon Iberico

Great with Jamon Iberico and charcuterie.
