Mencia

Mencia

Pronounced: Men-thee-ya.

Mencia is native to Bierzo in the province of Leon in the Autonomous region of Castilla y Leon. It is widely produced in Galicia and Asturias in North-Western Spain, and also Portugal, where it is known locally as Jaen. The grape produces aromatic, vibrant light to medium bodied wines, with moderate tannins and moderate alcohol. There are very subtle aromas of violets and more pronounced, strawberry, raspberry, red plums, liquorice, pomegranate and cherry aromas. The flavour profile of Mencía consists of raspberries, sour cherries, red currant and pomegranate along with black pepper, thyme, rosemary and a slight bitterness and minerality due to the tannins.

Perfect Pairing: A great BBQ wine. Good with Pepper steak, beef brisket, pepperoni pizza, field mushrooms. Great with Cheddar and Manchego and a charcuterie board.
